Website theme

Here you decide what parents see in your shop: gallery, photo page, cart, checkout and customer account. Plus watermarks and protection for your previews. Set it on the left. See it on the right. Save once.

At a glance

  • All shop pages in one place: nine areas under Settings › Website theme, each with a live preview.
  • One button saves every area. Only watermarks in the library are saved directly in the editor.
  • Up to 30 watermarks, one per photo job. Existing previews only change after you confirm.
  • Originals stay untouched. Purchased files never carry a watermark.

Nine areas, one save

Open Settings › Website theme. Nine areas sit at the top. Each area shows the settings in numbered steps on the left and a live preview in your theme colours on the right.

  1. 1Areas: Designs, Shop style, Gallery layout, Watermark, Photo page, Cart, Checkout, Confirmation and Customer account.
  2. 2Designs: the base design of your shop. The active theme carries Active. Live preview opens a theme to look at.
  3. 3Save Settings: saves all areas at once.
AreaWhat you set there
DesignsThe theme of your shop. You then design the home page, header and footer in the Shop designer.
Shop styleButtons and cards on the shop pages.
Gallery layoutStyle, columns, order, welcome, access and file names of the gallery.
WatermarkWatermark library, image resolution and protection for previews.
Photo pageProduct and package cards, texts, print crop and more on the page of a photo.
CartNote, discount code field and empty cart.
CheckoutPhone field, sign-in, note and consent at checkout.
ConfirmationHeadline, your message and the button after the purchase.
Customer accountWelcome, order more and download period.

Two ways to save

When you change something, the bar at the bottom shows Unsaved changes. Discard brings back the saved state. If you switch the theme, the page reloads after saving. A watermark, on the other hand, is saved directly in the editor with Save.

Shop style

Under Shop style you decide how buttons and cards look on the shop pages. Shop pages are the gallery, photo page, cart, checkout, confirmation and customer account. The home page and your own pages keep the theme buttons.

  1. 1Shop buttons: Automatic, As in the theme or Custom colours. Below it you see which colour the shop uses right now.
  2. 2Shop pages on dark themes: Light (recommended) or Like the theme.
  3. 3Preview page: photo page, cart, checkout or confirmation.
  4. 4Edit theme buttons and colours in the Designer: opens the Design tab in the Shop designer.
  • Automatic uses the theme button colour when it reads well on the light shop background. Otherwise a darker colour from your theme.
  • Custom colours opens one more step: background, text and hover colour. If the text is hard to read, Pixalo warns you.
  • Light makes the gallery, cart and checkout light and easy to read on dark themes. With a light theme both options look the same.

Look first, then save

The preview shows your choice at once, even for a theme you have not saved yet. Parents only see the change after you save.

Gallery: style and columns

Under Gallery layout the Gallery studio opens. It decides how parents see the photos in the gallery. Hover over a step and the preview highlights the matching spot.

  1. 1Style: twelve styles in three groups: Classic, Playful and Special. Your theme’s default marks the style your theme comes with. Back to the theme default removes your choice again.
  2. 2Columns: 2 to 6 on a computer (default 4), 1 or 2 on a phone (default 2). Tablets sit in between automatically.
  3. 3Preview: sample photos in the chosen style. Computer and Phone switch the view.

Theme first

Every theme comes with a matching gallery style. Choose the theme first. Only change the style if it does not suit your photos.

Gallery: display, order and page band

The next steps in the Gallery studio control what parents see around the photos and in which order.

  1. 1What parents see: Favourites heart to save photos, Photo number with a fixed number per photo (the same as in the order) and Available until with the closing date of the gallery.
  2. 2Order: Newest first, Oldest first or Alphabetical by filename. Group photos first always puts class and group photos at the top.
  3. 3Width: Like the header or Full width on large screens.
  4. 4Page band: the strip at the top with title and labels, on the gallery and the shop pages. You change background, line, label and shadow. Empty fields use the theme values.

Gallery: welcome, access and file names

The last three steps in the Gallery studio are about welcoming parents and about your files.

  1. 1Welcome: title (up to 80 characters) and text (up to 600 characters) above the photos. If the text stays empty, nothing shows. Photo count in the page band shows how many photos the gallery has.
  2. 2Access and parents: Siblings in one gallery, Pre-registration and Email card in the gallery.
  3. 3File names: Random (default) reveals neither child nor class. Readable builds the name from photo job, group and child. Applies to new uploads.

Without Siblings in one gallery, exactly one code applies per session. A new code resets the gallery and the cart. Codes from other photo jobs can never be combined.

  • Siblings in one gallery: up to 5 access codes from the same photo job. One gallery, one cart, one shipment.
  • Parent emails: With Pre-registration parents leave their email while the gallery is not open yet. The Email card asks for it in the open gallery when it is missing. An address is only stored after a click on the confirmation link. More under Online registration.

Watermark library

Instead of a single watermark, you have a library. Each card shows its watermark on a sample photo. Below it you see where it applies.

  1. 1Areas: Watermark is one of the nine areas in the website theme.
  2. 2Watermark card: name, type, layout and usage. The star marks the Default. Click a card to show its watermark in the live preview.
  3. 3New watermark: opens the editor. Up to 30 watermarks are possible.
  4. 4Templates: five ready-made watermarks to start from. More in the next section.
  5. 5Live watermark preview: the real preview image with the selected watermark.
ActionWhat happens
EditOpens the editor. After you save, photo jobs using this watermark show how many previews still carry the old one.
DuplicateCreates a copy, for example for a black variant. The name gets the suffix Copy.
Make default (star)Makes the watermark the default. It then applies to all photo jobs without their own choice.
DeletePhoto jobs that use it switch to the default watermark. The default itself cannot be deleted.

The default does the heavy lifting

Every new photo job follows the default watermark. Switch the default and the new one applies to all of these photo jobs. Choose a different watermark only where it should differ.

Templates

A template is a ready-made watermark to adjust. It opens in the editor with your studio name already filled in. Nothing is saved until you click Save.

© All rights reserved (AI-resistant)

Tiled across the whole photo, diagonal and with interference lines. The template with the strongest protection against AI removal.

Respect copyright

Tiled with the sentence Please respect copyright. Friendly in tone, clear in substance.

Studio name tiled

Your studio name diagonally across the whole photo. No interference lines, calmer on the image.

Studio name bottom right

© and your studio name bottom right on a dark background. Subtle, but easier to remove.

Logo centred

Your logo large in the middle of the image. You upload the image in the editor.

Editing a watermark

The editor opens in place of the library. You see every change right away in the live preview on the right, even before you save.

  1. 1Name: only for you, parents never see it. Use as default watermark makes it the default.
  2. 2Type: Text or Image or logo. Text up to 100 characters. Add © puts the symbol in front of your text.
  3. 3Layout: Tiled spreads the watermark across the whole photo. Position places it once at one of seven spots.
  4. 4Sliders: font size, opacity, density and interference lines. The values are in the table.
  5. 5Style: colour, angle and background.
  6. 6Note: changes apply to new uploads right away. Existing previews stay until you update them in the photo job.
  7. 7Live preview: shows your draft before you save.
SettingRange and effect
Font size20 to 200. For Image or logo the slider is called Size and runs from 5 to 100 % of the image width.
Opacity10 to 100 %. At 40 % the subject stays easy to see.
Density0.5× to 2×. How closely the watermarks sit together. Tiled only.
Interference lines0 to 20. Fine wavy lines make AI removal harder. At 0 they are off.
ColourWhite or black. White for dark and colourful subjects, black for light backgrounds.
AngleRising, horizontal or falling. Diagonal text is harder to remove.
BackgroundNone, Dark or Light. A bar behind the watermark keeps it readable on any subject. Position only.

For Image or logo you upload a file:

  • A PNG with a transparent background works best. JPG and WebP work too.
  • About 700 px wide, 5 MB at most.
  • An outline or shadow keeps the logo visible on light and dark photos.

Nothing happens automatically

Saving does not change previews that are already in galleries. Affected photo jobs then show something like 12 with old watermark in their header. There you decide whether and when to update.

Live preview

The Live watermark preview is not a mock-up. Pixalo creates the image with the same processing as your uploaded photos. Size, quality and watermark are real.

  • Info line: dimensions, file size and JPEG quality, for example 667 × 1000 px · 96 KB · JPEG 80 %.
  • Whole image and Actual size (100 %): at actual size you can check every detail.
  • View: Computer or Mobile. With mobile protection on, the mobile view also shows the blurred half.
  • Test copy protection shows for 4 seconds what parents see when they try to take a screenshot. Show notice opens the copyright notice once it is active.

10

Image resolution

Families never see the original, only a reduced preview. The step Image Resolution (Demo) sets its size. The originals stay untouched.

  1. 1Preview: longest edge: 600 to 1200 px. The same for portrait and landscape. Nothing is cropped.
  2. 2JPEG quality: 30 to 100 %.

Recommendation

1200 px at quality 70 suits most studios. Higher values need more storage, slow the gallery and make the preview more like the original.

The same rule applies here: new uploads get the new size right away. After a change, every photo job with photos shows how many previews you can update.

Copy protection and copyright notice

The step Protection for previews has three switches. The live preview shows each one at once.

  1. 1Enable copy protection: blocks right-click and hides photos as soon as the window loses focus or Print Screen or Ctrl+P is pressed. Computer only.
  2. 2Mobile: show only one half of the picture at a time: on phones and tablets one half is always blurred in the large view. Families switch with a button.
  3. 3Copyright notice before the gallery: parents confirm a short notice once when they open the gallery. Default: off.

Custom text (optional): leave it empty for the standard text in the parents' language. Your own text appears exactly as written in every language, up to 600 characters. The confirmation applies per browser. If you change the text, the notice appears again.

No 100 percent protection

No shop can stop a photo of the screen taken with a second device. Watermark and small previews are therefore the main protection.

A watermark per photo job

The header of every photo job shows which watermark applies. A new photo job follows the default.

  1. 1Watermark: the name of the selected watermark. Click it to open the selection.
  2. 2Previews: appears as soon as previews carry an old watermark. Update renews them.
  1. 1Open the selection Click the watermark in the header. Watermark for this photo job opens.
  2. 2Choose a watermark No watermark, the default watermark or one from your library. The preview uses a photo from this very job.
  3. 3Apply Click Apply. New uploads get the watermark right away.
  1. 1Selection: the default watermark follows every later change of the default. A watermark from the library stays fixed. Manage watermarks takes you to the library.
  2. 2Preview: a photo from this photo job with the selected watermark, with info line and Actual size (100 %).
  3. 3Regenerate existing previews: renews previews that were already uploaded with the saved watermark. The number shows the affected photos. So choose first and click Apply.
  4. 4Apply: saves the choice. Active as soon as you have changed something.

Without a watermark

Even without a watermark, previews stay reduced and the originals stay protected. In a team, photographers need the permission Choose watermark for the selection. More under Team.

Updating previews

Previews that are already uploaded never change on their own. You decide per photo job whether and when.

  • What makes an update necessary: an edited or deleted watermark, a new default, a new choice in the photo job or a changed image resolution.
  • Where you see it: in the photo job header under Previews, for example 12 with old watermark.
  • How to start: click Update and confirm with Update now.
  1. 1Update now: starts the renewal. The window shows the number and the estimated duration.
DisplayMeaning
Update starting soonIn the queue. Starts by itself.
Waiting for free capacityRunning uploads have priority. The update then starts automatically.
Updating 40/120Runs in the background. Cancel update stops it at any time.
UpdatedDone. Parents now see the new watermark.
3 photos not updatedSome photos failed. Try again processes them once more.
Update cancelledStopped. Resume carries on. Photos already renewed stay renewed.

The gallery stays open

During the update, parents see the previous previews and order as usual. The update never touches originals or purchased files.

Photo page: cards and texts

When parents open a photo, they see your products and packages next to it. Under Photo page you decide how this page looks. Which products exist is set under Products.

  1. 1Product cards: Two side by side (default) or One per row on large screens.
  2. 2Package cards: six styles such as Classic, Showcase (default), Voucher or Receipt. Each card shows a small sketch.
  3. 3Live preview: the photo page with your settings. Hover over a step and it highlights the matching spot.
  1. 1Discount label: five models for the discount on packages. Showcase and Stamp always show it. Show on all package styles adds it to the other styles too.
  2. 2Texts: Headline (up to 80 characters), Subtitle (up to 160) and Note above the products (up to 300). Empty fields show the default text in the parents’ language.
  3. 3Start and order: Show when opening picks the first selection, for example All or Bundles. Under Order under "All" you choose Packages first (default) or Single products first.

Empty selection

If the chosen selection has no products, the page opens All automatically.

Photo page: photo and features

The last steps of the photo page control the large photo and extra features for parents.

  1. 1Photo: Photo stays in place while scrolling (on a computer) and Arrows on the photo to the next or previous photo. Both are on by default.
  2. 2Features: Choose print crop, Swipe products on phones and Group photos print only (new jobs).
  3. 3Manage products and prices: opens your products.
  • Choose print crop: for prints, parents decide themselves what gets printed. Default: off. The aspect ratio follows the format, for example 5x7. The shop rejects crops below 150 dpi. The cropped file is made from the original after payment and sits in the order and in the lab export.
  • Swipe products on phones: on a phone the product cards sit side by side and can be swiped.
  • Group photos print only: default for new photo jobs. Group photos are then not available as files. You change existing jobs in the job itself, see Group photos.

Cart

Under Cart you design the last look before checkout.

  1. 1Note: sits above the order summary, up to 300 characters. If it stays empty, nothing shows. Good for an order deadline before the holidays.
  2. 2Options: Discount code field in the cart and at checkout (default: on). "Continue shopping" shows a link back to the gallery (default: off). Manage discount codes opens the discount codes.
  3. 3Empty cart: headline and text when nothing is in the cart yet. Hover over the step and the preview shows the empty cart.
  4. 4Set up shipping: shipping costs and free shipping above an amount are under Settings › Shipping.

Checkout

Under Checkout you decide what parents fill in and what they read before paying. You set up the payment methods themselves under Payments.

  1. 1Contact: Phone number as Optional (default), Required or Hide. Recommend sign-in shows a card that recommends a customer account. For digital products sign-in is always required.
  2. 2Note: sits right above the payment methods, up to 300 characters. Below it "Continue shopping" (default: on).
  3. 3Set up payment methods: opens Settings › Payments.
  4. 4Live preview: the checkout with your settings. The payment methods in it are examples.

Fewer required fields

Every required field costs orders. Only ask for what you really need.

18

Consent at checkout

With Consent at checkout parents tick a box before ordering. For example for your privacy policy, your terms or the waiver of the right of withdrawal for digital photos. The box is never pre-ticked.

  1. 1Consent at checkout: Require a tick before ordering turns it on. Without the tick nobody can order, with any payment method.
  2. 2Live preview: shows the box in the chosen place with your text.
  • Linked page: Automatic uses your privacy page. You can choose any published page. If no suitable page exists, the box shows without a link.
  • Position of the box: Before the order button or After the order button.
  • Text next to the box: up to 400 characters. If it stays empty, customers see the default text in their language. {page} becomes the link to the chosen page. Without {page} the link sits at the end.

Get legal advice

Pixalo stores the consent with date and wording in the order. It also appears in the order confirmation. Which consent you need is a question for your legal advisor.

Order confirmation

After the purchase parents see the confirmation page. Under Confirmation you turn it into a personal thank you. Payment details such as bank transfer or pickup are shown by Pixalo automatically, matching the payment method.

  1. 1Headline: the large line below the check mark, up to 80 characters. If it stays empty, the default text shows.
  2. 2Personal message: sits below the headline, up to 600 characters. If it stays empty, nothing shows.
  3. 3Order summary: the list of items with amounts. When it is off, the order number and total stay visible.
  4. 4Bottom button: Back to home (default) or To the gallery to order more.

Customer account

When parents sign in, they see the overview of their customer account. Under Customer account you adapt this page.

  1. 1Welcome: the sentence below "Welcome back", up to 160 characters. If it stays empty, the default text shows.
  2. 2Order more: the "Order more" card with a To the gallery button. Default: on.
  3. 3Sign-in and account icons in the menu: you show or hide them in the Shop designer under Header › Menu.
  4. 4Invoices in the customer account: the card only shows when your invoice module is on. More under Invoices.

Download period

After purchase, families download their digital photos. You set the period under Customer account in the step Download period. It counts from the order date.

  1. 1Customer account: this is where the download period lives.
  2. 2Validity of download links: 7 to 90 days.
  3. 3Note: tell your customers about the period and update your privacy policy.
  • 7 to 90 days. Default and recommendation are 7 days, so originals are not available longer than needed.
  • Applies to single downloads, ZIP archives and the link to set a password.
  • A change also applies to existing orders, counted from their order date.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the former Gallery / Photos area?

Everything now sits under Settings › Website theme. Watermarks, image resolution and copy protection under Watermark. Layout, access and file names under Gallery layout. Print crop and group photos under Photo page. The download period under Customer account. Old links lead to the new place automatically.

Can I use different watermarks for different jobs?

Yes. Create up to 30 watermarks in the library. In the header of each photo job you choose the right one. All others follow the default.

Can I turn off the watermark for a single photo job?

Yes. Click the watermark in the photo job header, choose No watermark and click Apply. This applies to new uploads right away.

Do photos I already uploaded change when I adjust the watermark?

Not automatically. New uploads get the new watermark right away. You renew existing previews in the photo job with Update, only after you confirm.

How long does an update take?

The confirmation window shows an estimate. As a guide, Pixalo handles about two photos per second while no uploads are running. Uploads always have priority.

Does the watermark protect against AI removal?

It makes removal much harder. Tiled watermarks with interference lines work best, like the template © All rights reserved (AI-resistant). No protection is 100 percent.

Can families see the original before buying?

No. The gallery only shows the reduced preview. Pixalo releases the original only after purchase.

Is the original reduced for prints?

No. For prints and downloads Pixalo always uses the full-resolution original.
