Custom domain
Your shop at your address, for example www.your-studio.co.uk. You set two or three DNS records, Pixalo does the rest.
At a glance
- You buy the domain from a provider. Pixalo connects it to your shop.
- Pixalo issues and renews the SSL certificate automatically.
- As primary domain it is used everywhere: in QR codes, links and emails.
Without a custom domain your shop runs at your Pixalo address. For your own address you need:
- A domain: bought from a provider such as GoDaddy, IONOS, Namecheap or Cloudflare.
- Access to the DNS settings: that is where you add the records.
- The address you want: www.your-studio.co.uk or a subdomain like photos.your-studio.co.uk.
Under Settings › Domains enter the address without https:// and click Add.
- 1Add New Domain: for example your-studio.co.uk. The DNS instructions appear afterwards.
- 2Active domain: SSL-protected and reachable. Open shows the shop at this address.
- 3Star: makes the domain the primary domain.
Entered without www
Until the domain is active, its card shows the records to create at your provider. Copy every value with one click.
- 1Progress: configure DNS, verification, SSL certificate, active.
- 2TXT record: proves that the domain is yours.
- 3CNAME record: points the address to Pixalo.
- 4Cloudflare: set the proxy status to DNS only. The cloud must be grey.
- 5Check Status: starts the check right away. Otherwise Pixalo checks regularly on its own.
| Type | Name | Content |
|---|---|---|
| TXT | _pixalo-verify (for subdomains _pixalo-verify.subdomain) | Your personal code from the card |
| CNAME | www or your subdomain | custom.pixalo.shop |
| CNAME | @ (only for www addresses) | custom.pixalo.shop, redirects your-studio.co.uk to www |
Not on Cloudflare? Other Providers shows the same records with notes for GoDaddy, IONOS, Namecheap, Hetzner, Strato and others.
- 1Other Providers: switches the instructions.
- 2Records: the same values. If your provider offers a proxy mode, turn it off.
The @ record
After adding the records everything runs on its own. The page refreshes automatically.
- 1Configure DNS: Pixalo waits for your records.
- 2Verification: TXT and CNAME are checked.
- 3SSL certificate: is issued, usually in 1 to 5 minutes.
- Active: your shop is reachable at the domain, encrypted.
- DNS changes take 5 to 10 minutes at Cloudflare and up to 48 hours at other providers.
- If a record is missing, the card names it. After a failed attempt it shows when Pixalo checks again.
Once a domain is active, make it the primary domain with the star. Then:
- Anyone opening your Pixalo address is redirected to the primary domain.
- Gallery QR codes, online registration links and the app QR codes use the primary domain.
- Under Settings › General it appears as the current shop URL.

Frequently asked questions
Does a custom domain cost extra at Pixalo?
No. You only pay your domain provider.
Do I need to handle the SSL certificate?
No. Pixalo issues and renews it automatically.
Does your-studio.co.uk work without www too?
Yes, if your provider allows the @ record. Then your-studio.co.uk redirects to www.your-studio.co.uk.
The check does not progress. What now?
Compare names and values character by character, turn off any proxy and wait for the DNS time. Then click Check Status.
