Photo day

You need your camera and the printed cards. Photograph the card. Photograph the child. Next card. When you upload, every photo lands with the right child by itself.

At a glance

  • The photo of a card tells Pixalo: from here on, everything belongs to this child. Until the next card.
  • The order of the shots is everything. Do not rename or mix files.
  • Consents are shown on the card, the list and in the app. Stick to them.

The guide in the dashboard

In a job's workflow, the Shooting step with View instructions opens this page with five short scenes. Ideal for briefing new colleagues.

  1. 1Print the photo cards Take them in the order of the list. A clipboard helps. See QR cards.
  2. 2Photograph the card first Fill the frame, flat and sharp. This one photo opens the child's section.
  3. 3Then take the photos As many as you like. Everything up to the next card belongs to this child.
  4. 4Continue with the next card Card, photos, card, photos. Give the card to the child afterwards: it is also the access to the gallery.
  5. Upload Upload all photos, each camera separately. Matching runs by itself. See Upload photos.

The rules

Six rules make every photo day safe.

Order is everything

Pixalo sorts by the camera's capture time. If a photo lacks it, by file name. Upload several cameras separately. Do not rename or mix files beforehand.

Group card before the group photo

The dark group card comes first. All photos after it belong to the whole group and appear in every gallery of that group.

Siblings

Photograph only one card. Parents later combine the access codes in the shop.

Card quality

Hold it flat, light it evenly, focus sharply. The QR code should fill at least 15% of the image. Blurry cards end up in the review.

Other QR codes do no harm

A poster or T-shirt with a QR code does not open a section. Only Pixalo cards count. Two cards in one image: the larger one wins and the photo gets a note.

Test shots before the first card

Photos before the first card belong to nobody. They end up under Unsorted photos. Card photos themselves never appear in a gallery.

Consents on set

If parents did not agree to a type of photo, for example in the online sign-up, it shows on the printed card, in the list of children and in the app. Three cases:

NoticeWhat you do
Do not photographThe child is not photographed. The card has no QR code.
Group photo onlyNo individual portrait. The child may be in the group photo.
No group photoIndividual portrait yes, group photo no. The group card lists these children under Not in the group photo.

Check shortly before photo day

Parents can change their consent at any time. So print the cards as late as possible or look at the app in the morning. It always shows the current state.

The app on set

In the Pixalo app, tap the job under Jobs and then the group. At the top you see how many children have been photographed.

  1. 1Group photo card: shows the card for the group photo on the display.
  2. 2Child: name, consent notice and Card. The number on the left ticks the child off.

The list helps you on set:

  • The children are in the same order as the printed cards.
  • Consent notices are right under the name.
  • You can add children here too. Deleting only in the dashboard.
  1. 1Notice: here group photo only, no individual portrait.
  2. 2Shot done: ticks the child off and closes the card.

A tap on Card turns the phone into the card. Photograph the display like a printed card. The result is the same.

Photograph the display correctly

Fill the frame, hold it flat, avoid reflections. Turning up the display brightness helps.
  1. 1Not in the group photo: ask these children to step aside for the group photo.

The group card is also in the app. Photograph it right before the group photo.

The tick stays on the phone

Ticked-off children are a reminder on this device. They do not reach the dashboard. Which photos belong to whom is decided only by the card in the image.

No card on set

Forgot a card, or a child who was not on the list? Three ways.

Spare cards

Print a few spare cards without names beforehand. Add the names later in the list of children.

Card on the phone

Show the child's card in the app and photograph the display.

Match later

Photos without a card end up under Unsorted photos. You match them there with a few clicks. See Match photos.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the app on photo day?

No. Camera and printed cards are enough. The app helps when a card is missing.

I shoot with two cameras. What should I watch out for?

Each camera photographs its own cards. Then upload each camera separately.

I forgot the card for one child.

Then their photos end up with the previous child. Move them to the right child in the review. See Match photos.

What happens if a child holds the wrong card?

The photos go to the child on the card. You move them in the dashboard with a few clicks.
